Mel was born in Coalinga on April 12, 1927 to Harry and Stella Greve of Coalinga. His parents passed early in life while Mel and his sisters lived and managed the ranch that was homesteaded by the family. His older sister taking on the task of parenting. As years passed Mel continued to run the ranch and lived there his entire life. During those years he also drove the rural school bus then retiring to open his own western wear, supplies and feed store in Coalinga known as “Mel’s Ranch Supply”.
Mel is survived by his wife Betty of 29 years, a son Larry (Kim) Greve and a daughter Anita (Rod) Summers as well as step children; Anna Vest, Ron (Michelle) Gridley, Tami (Sonny) Kent and Don (Matilda) Gridley and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a passionate, competitive player of cards and domino games, always ready for the challenge and loving every minute of it. He will be greatly missed by all.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and his grandson Brad Greve.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday, November 16th at 1:00 pm at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Coalinga.
