

He graduated from Coalinga High School in 1952 and continued his education graduating from Coalinga College and Fresno State University.
On June 23, 1956 he married Cleo Burchett at the First Baptist Church. He was a member of the First Baptist Church/Chapel Grace his entire life. He accepted Christ when he was ten years old and served the Lord faithfully throughout his life.
After serving in the Army, Vern and Cleo returned to Coalinga and Vern started teaching.
He worked for Coalinga-Huron School District 1960 to June 2002:
1960 – Elementary teacher Oil King
1965 – Math/Science teacher Coalinga Junior High
1978 – Assistant Principal/Dean of Students Coalinga Junior High
1981 – Principal Coalinga Junior High
1991 – Principal Cambridge & Chestnut High Schools
2002 – Retired
He loved working with students, in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities. Some of the clubs he sponsored and participated in were, the bike, rocket, rock hunting, and hiking clubs, to name a few.
After retiring from the school district, he continued to serve his community by serving on various committees/clubs and worked at the Coalinga Community Thrift Shop.
The Apples have two children, Jan (Greg) Stark of Richmond, Texas and David Apple of Bakersfield, California. Six grandchildren; Ernest (Lezlie) Apple of Dinuba, Jason (Melissa) Apple of Montana, Katherine Stark of Texas, Christina (Michael) Crawford of Bakersfield, Garry and Jason Stark of Texas. And four great-grandchildren, Parker, Ryder, Mattilynn, and Alexis.
Vern is survived by his wife Cleo, children, grand and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three of his siblings: John (Joy) Apple of Coalinga, Melba Valencia of Santa Maria, and twin sister Fern Miller of Indiana.
