Alice Simpson Hoog
October 30, 1919 – March 17, 2020
Alice Hoog, age 100, of Cape Canaveral, was peacefully taken home to Jesus on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the Solaris Healthcare facility in Merritt Island.
Alice Simpson was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 30, 1919, the daughter of Mayroe D. and Bertha (Brickman) Simpson.
Alice grew up in Bloomingdale, New York, then moved to Pennsylvania before eventually settling in Cape Canaveral, Florida, her sunny home for more than five decades. Alice was a dedicated mother who was passionate about her faith and her family. She raised her three children, Pat, Sandi and Bob, in the Christian church and with plenty of love. She had a strong work ethic and held various jobs, including working in a factory, at a children’s clothing store, and for many years at the fine jewelry counter at Jordan Marsh, the company from which she retired.
Alice loved her church family at Christ Lutheran Church in Cape Canaveral, where she attended for decades, joyfully singing hymns each week from her favourite pew and celebrating many birthdays with her friends in Christ. She also loved her sweets, her “stories” (read: soap operas), Jeopardy! and Bingo, which she enjoyed often with many friends at the Cape Canaveral VFW post.
Alice was a special, spunky woman, and everyone who knew her loved her. Whether at the local Publix, at church or Bingo, she had good friends everywhere.
She is survived by her brother, Augie Simpson of Bloomingdale, New York, and a host of other relatives who will miss her greatly, including her daughter Sandi and son-in-law, Scott; her son, Bob and his wife, Carolyn; eight grandchildren, their spouses and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as three brothers, Edward, Billy and Charlie, three sisters, Ellen, Dorothy (Dot) and Bertha (Bert), three husbands: Frank Hoog, Ken Gordon, and Robert Beckett, and her daughter, Pat.
A gravesite service took place on Thursday, March 19 at Brevard Memorial Park in Cocoa, Florida.
