

She was born on December 31, 1936, in Bessemer City, North Carolina, to James and Chloe Robinson.
Barbara graduated from Lenore Rhyne College in North Carolina with her bachelor’s degree in teaching and later earned her master’s degree from Appalachian State Teachers College in North Carolina. She went on to dedicate her career to education, shaping the lives of countless students with patience, encouragement, and a passion for learning.
She was married to her beloved husband, Lowell Humburg, for 63 years. She is also survived by her daughters, Sharon Kindred (Nick) and Ruth Brus (Tony); and her sons, James “Jim” Humburg (Christia) and Jeff Humburg (Angela). She is lovingly remembered by 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom brought her great joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Chloe, and her sisters Elizabeth, Joyce, and Ethel.
Barbara had a deep passion for traveling the world, embracing new cultures and adventures wherever she went. She spent much of her career teaching at Tropical Elementary School, where she formed lifelong bonds with her fellow teachers and colleagues. Beyond the classroom, she enjoyed the camaraderie of her bridge club, the quiet joy of reading, the challenge of a good jumble, and the simple pleasure of a very hot cup of coffee with dessert.
A devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Merritt Island for over 60 years, Barbara also shared her musical gifts as an organist, filling the sanctuary with music that inspired and uplifted her congregation. Her faith and service were central to her life, and her church community remained a constant source of joy and strength.
A funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 280 E Merritt Ave, Merritt Island, FL 32953 on Wednesday, September 3 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Cocoa Memorial Park, 320 Spring Street, Cocoa, FL 32927 at 2:00 PM following a short reception gathering at Faith Lutheran Church. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Barbara’s remarkable life.
