Buddy Story

Bud was born on August 4, 1947, in Akron, Ohio, to Marley F. Story, Sr., and Agnes (Aggie) A. Story (nee Joseph) the family relocated to Cocoa, Florida in 1957. He graduated from Cocoa High School in 1966. He had several occupations in life, starting with service station attendant, then U.S. Army, National Linen Service, and finally found his niche as a Calibration Technician at Kennedy Space Center, where he won several design and efficiency awards. He proudly served in the Army from 1967 to 1969. He arrived in Vietnam in January 1968 and was there until December, assigned to the 11th Armored Cavalry. He was severely wounded in May of 1968 and was awarded a Purple Heart. He earned several other medals, also. Bud was passionate about coaching his son’s baseball team and restoring classic cars. He got his first car in 1963, shortly before his 16th birthday (his beloved 1955 Chevy, which still is in the garage), developing his passion for cars. In addition to the ’55 Chevy, his current trove includes 2015 and 2022 Silverado pickups, 1969 Camaro, 1985 El Camino and his last project, a 1962 Bel Air. For many years he was actively involved in NHRA drag racing with a 1968 Camaro and his son Brian raced a 1967 Camaro also. He truly enjoyed the time he spent at the racetrack.

Bud was preceded in death by his father, mother, and son, Brian. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Nancy, brother Rick, grandson Tyler, pseudo daughter-in-law Melinda Bowes and son Mikey, sister-in-law Peggy (Bill) Gregg, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

The funeral viewing will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm., at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home on Merritt Island. The service will immediately follow. Military graveside service will be at Brevard Memorial Park in Cocoa. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Veterans Connections, 2444 Ponds Dr., Cocoa, Fl., 32927.
