Donna Avery Montgomery (Pillion), 53, of Cocoa, FL passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 16, 2018. Donna was a passionate woman and was a woman of strong Catholic faith. She also embraced her Indian heritage with passion and attended many cultural affairs.
Born in Boonton, NJ of James F Pillion and Carol Ann Pillion (Wilson) Donna grew up in Honesdale PA and attended Wayne Highlands School District until she moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1981. She then moved to Cocoa Beach FL where she established her family.
She was previously a professional surfer in the 1990’s and was known as the “Surfing Indian.” She also worked as a nurse for many years. Donna recently served as President of the Cocoa Eagles and was very involved with their organization over the past three years serving as Trustee, Chaplin, and Vice President. She was always advocating for good; volunteering her time to help maintain local beaches.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Montgomery; daughters: Kelly, Lorna, and Magan Avery all of Tampa; brother, James Kulla Pompano Beach FL; sisters, Diane Frank and husband Ron of Fort Lauderdale FL and Dawn Roses and husband Peter; ten grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many dear friends. She was predeceased by parents, Sister Doris Marie and twin brothers Mark and William.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 12, 2019 at 11AM at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home.
