Elizabeth Kretzer, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Rockledge, FL on May 22, 2024. Born on October 11,1934 in New York City, she was the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth Hutter. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Kretzer.
Elizabeth was a graduate of the Thorpe Secretarial School in 1951, after which she embarked on a long career as an Executive Secretary. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Ed Kretzer in the Bronx, New York. Her granddaughters always delighted in hearing how her father, an accomplished professional baker, proudly created his daughter’s wedding cake.
Liz and Ed moved to Florida in 1959, to join many other young families contributing to the establishment of the new and growing space program. It was an exciting time to live in Brevard where they raised their two daughters, Susan and Laura. Elizabeth eventually began a career with State of Florida, including the Florida Department of Corrections.
Elizabeth enjoyed gardening and was very talented at sewing and all types of needlework. After retirement she and Ed enjoyed traveling, camping, and spending time with their grandchildren. She moved to Indian Oaks in 2004 and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She was a lifelong animal lover, and everyone will remember how she especially enjoyed the company of her cherished dog, Lola.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters Susan Rhoden and Laura Kretzer, her grandchildren Lorraine Rhoden-Lahera (Nikki Lahera), Caroline Breen, Kaitlyn Schrote, Haleigh Schrote, and Dan Schrote, and her great-grandchildren, August Breen and Theodore Lahera.
Although she never permanently returned to New York City, she visited several times with her daughter Susan, and granddaughters, Lorraine and Caroline. In tribute to her everlasting love for the city, she and Edward’s ashes will eventually be spread in the lilac trail in Central Park (yes, it is legal).
A Celebration of Life will be held June 3rd at 1pm, at the Indian Oaks Clubhouse, 1358 Deer Trail, Rockledge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Brevard Humane Society or the Best Friends Animal Society, organizations that were very dear to Elizabeth.
