

Fred Baumgarten, 98, formerly of Hornell and Johnson City, NY, and long-time resident of Cape Canaveral, FL, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025 at the Vistas Hospice Inpatient Healthcare Hospital in Rockledge, FL.
Fred was preceded in death by his wives Lorraine Baumgarten, Rose Noyes, and Lauretta Brownell, his siblings, Francis (Ruth) Baumgarten, Rose (Clint) Taft, Mary (Al) Arno, and Patricia (Dutch) Vincent, his children Frederick Baumgarten Jr., Kay Baumgarten (Fisk), and Lawrence Baumgarten. He leaves behind his children, Connie Baumgarten (Jay) Zeager, NY, Charlene Baumgarten Sherwood, MI, Rosemary Baumgarten (Mike) Bozeman, AL, Robert (Lana) Baumgarten, NY, Thomas (Grace) Baumgarten, AZ, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and Rosemary, a special friend of Fred and Lorraine, and his feline companion, Georgia.
Fred was a proud World War II U.S. Navy Veteran, serving on the USS William P. Biddle as a Motor Machinist Mate, Third Class. After completing his military service, he furthered his education at Alfred College, NY., enabling him to gain employment as an electrical engineer overseeing the installation of elevators for Otis Elevator Company for 35 years. Additionally, Fred was a lifelong member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Fred was a man with a variety of hobbies and interests. Before retiring to warm and sunny Cape Canaveral, FL, he had a permanent campsite at Twin Brooks, in Chenango Bridge, NY, where he enjoyed gathering with family and friends, making campfires, and stargazing. As a Florida retiree, Fred enjoyed playing golf, deep-sea fishing, tossing horseshoes, and taking his loved ones on one of the many casino boats in the Cape to spend and hopefully win a few extra dollars. Fred was an avid gardener and enjoyed the special floral masterpieces he cultivated from his many hours in the garden. He was quick to humor and possessed an even quicker wit. He was a loving and compassionate man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Fred Baumgarten will be laid to rest with full military honors at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Brevard County, Florida.
