Harold was the youngest of five children born to Paul and Grace Spaulding in Oneida, NY, on October 17,1933. Harold and his parents moved to California in 1945, when he was approximately twelve years old. He graduated from Banning High School in 1953. After serving two years in the Navy, he was discharged and went back to the California Department of Forestry as a fire truck driver and worked at several Fire Departments in Riverside County when needed. Approximately 1957, Harold was assigned to work at the Cherry Valley County Fire Department. After five years, he took the test for Foreman, passed the test, and was transferred to the Calimesa Fire Station. After one year, Harold was offered a position as Captain of a State Fire Station in San Jacinto, which he accepted. After five years, he transferred to Fire Prevention, which included being a Peace Officer for the State. Among other duties, he worked in the field of Arson Investigator throughout the State of California and was Certified by the Courts to be an expert Witness in arson cases brought to the Courts.
