

A beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle & grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home October 3, 2025
Herman, the eldest of 3, was born and raised in Johnson City, TN. He served in the USAF, married and enjoyed a lengthy career in aerospace at Huntsville, AL, KSC, FL, Lancaster, CA & Slidell, LA working on the Apollo and Shuttle operations, and others. His hobbies included ballroom dancing, golf, helping people with home improvement projects and maintaining an immaculate lawn.
Herman, known as the charismatic life of the party, will be remembered for his legendary ability to tell a joke and an endless repertoire. He taught Arrive Alive classes for Brevard seniors & Sunday bible classes at his church, had a deep faith in God and the most kind, endearing heart. His family knows him as a phenomenal husband and father, as well as an exceptional friend & neighbor, always eager to lend a hand. He enjoyed many close, lifelong friendships and will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Betty, his son Steven, sister Marion, along with parents Herman Sr. and Lena.
He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah (Barry) Beck and Pamela (William) Mitchell. Grandchildren, Jaime Beck, Meridith Mitchell, Kendall Beck, Lauren Mitchell and Christopher Byrd. Great grandchildren, Mark Carlile, Cassidy Dobbins, Riley Dobbins, Olivia Sisk, Anthony Allen, Avery Sisk, Madeline Byrd, sister Virginia Hayes, and his nieces and nephews.
A ceremony to celebrate Herman’s life will be held at Wylie Baxley Funeral Home, located at 1360 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, Fl 32953 on Friday, October 17, 2025. Visitation for all will begin at 1:00 followed by the service at 2:00. The family invites any and all to follow, after the service, to the cemetery for interment at Brevard Memorial Park at 320 Spring Street, Cocoa, Fl 32927.
