John “Jack” Calvana Olive passed away at his home in Cocoa, Florida, at the age of 82, with his devoted partner Joan Andersen at his side. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his two children: a daughter, Linda Sheehan and her husband Kevin of Orlando, Florida, and a son, John Olive of Frederick, Maryland, and his three grandchildren, Anna, Sara and Will Sheehan. Jack will also be affectionately remembered by his two older sisters, Janet Palumbo and (Selma) Ann Metz, his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and extended family. Jack was pre-deceased by his parents, Delmar Landis Olive and Mary Virginia Cropp, his sister (Delma) Nan Jones, and his nephews, David Fleming and Scott Jones.
Jack was born in Spotsylvania, Virginia, and raised in Glen Echo, Maryland, graduating from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1957. After high school graduation, Jack served our country honorably in the U.S. Navy, switched to a civil career, and ultimately retired from Federal Service at the David W. Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center (NSRDC) in Carderock, Maryland.
Jack settled in Frederick, Maryland, to raise his family and start his second career as a small business owner. Over the next 40 years, his business, Trident Enterprises International, Inc., would grow into a successful multinational corporation. In 2000, Jack retired to Cape Canaveral, Florida, always enjoying being near 'his ship,' the USNS Hayes, an acoustic research vessel docked in Port Canaveral. Jack had a passion for traveling and seeing the world, which he passed whole-heartedly to his children and grandchildren.
Jack will be buried with full U.S. Navy honors on June 25th at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, with a reception for family and friends immediately following. The family kindly requests that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in lieu of flowers.
