A Florida native, Kay was born on December 24, 1941 in Jacksonville, Florida to Roy Mallion, a cement finisher and Dorothy Pohnl Mallion. Not long after her birth, the family moved to Miami where she grew up and later met and married the love of her life, an Air Force jet engine mechanic and instructor, Harry Boyer. Through the military, Kay, Harry, and their children lived in Florida, Dakota, Mississippi, Georgia and Texas. In 1972, after the death of her husband, Kay remarried and settled permanently in Titusville.
Kay worked as a school bus driver for the Brevard County School Board for nearly 30 years. She absolutely loved her job and the students that rode her bus.
In retirement, Kay enjoyed gardening, traveling, watching sports, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She volunteered regularly at Pinewood Elementary School in Mims, helping the front office staff and teachers with whatever tasks they needed assistance completing. She also was a member of TOPS where she met many wonderful and lasting friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Forbes and Brenda Evans (Linc); sons, Harry Boyer, Jr. and James Shuler; grandchildren, Lindsay Nash, Lacey Evans (Chris Dugan), Connor and Spencer Forbes; and great-grandchildren Jacelyn and Jackson.
Kay will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her positive attitude, her enjoyment of life, and above all else, her independent nature. She fearlessly faced any challenge that presented itself to her.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 2:00p.m. at Crosswalk Community Church, 77 Carpenter Road, Titusville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pinewood Elementary School, 3757 Old Dixie Highway, Mims, Florida 32754, in Kay's name.
