

Mr. Shaffer was from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While serving 24 years for our country as a Gunners Mate in the US Navy, Mr. Shaffer did a stint with Seal Team 2 during the Vietnam War and retired as an Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) member. After retiring in 1983 Mr. Shaffer moved to Brevard County, Florida. After finishing his College Degree at UCF, Mr. Shaffer became a Corrections Officer in Osceola County. In 1987 Mr. Shaffer began working with the US Army, as a civilian Special Agent for Army Intelligence. After retiring from Government service in 1996, Michael moved back to Brevard County going into private business.
He was a member of the Florida Department Law Enforcement, American and Florida Polygraph Associations, Florida Association of Licensed Investigators, and many other organizations. Mr. Shaffer was sole proprietor of Shaffer & Associates Polygraph and Investigations. He owned and operated Shaffer & Associates polygraph for 19 years. Michael was a 4th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, usher & member at Church of Our Saviour’s in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Mr. Shaffer is survived by his wife of 27 years Kathryn Hoog Shaffer; daughters Michele Sholar, her spouse Christopher of Cocoa, FL and CarrieAnn Jarvis of Pittsburgh, PA; sister Elizabeth Reiser, her spouse Robin of Pendleton, SC; granddaughters Nicole and Jessica Sholar and Hayley Eriksen; grandson Fox Jarvis; grandson-in-law Jacob Culwell; great-grandchildren Olivia, Jacob Jr., and Brooklyn Culwell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Charmaine Goral.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Church of Our Saviour in Cocoa Beach, Friday, July 10, 2015 at 10:30am. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
