Mike was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Mike was a caring and giving man who loved to take his family out for celebration dinners. Mike was also passionate about his garden and could often be found working in the yard making it beautiful. He had a passion for fishing, his gun collection, and his large collection of antique fairy lamps. Anyone who knew Mike would know he loved to tell you stories of his past. He loved to share stories of his childhood; his father had an ice cream truck. He would talk of when he would go to Mexico and help with the missions; when he served in the air force and about his experiences in the Aerospace industry. Mike had a laugh like no other he could be found in a large crowd by the sound of his cheerful laughter. Mike had a love for animals especially his dog Chloe that he would take frequently to the dog park. He would make Arlene and Chloe breakfast every day and get them both a scoop of ice cream at night.
Mike is preceded by his wife Mary Arlene Hayhurst who passed last August 23. He leaves behind his beloved family: son Mark and his wife Barbara Hayhurst; Barbara was also his caregiver; step son Wayne and his wife Debbie Rodgers; step daughter Melanie and her husband David Crytzer; granddaughter Hannah and her husband Luke Johns; and step granddaughter Susan and her husband Richard Gilland and their daughter Caliana.
He served in the air force from 1960 to 1964 and from there went on to work in the Aerospace industry starting in California and then moved to Brevard County where he continued to work in the Aerospace industry at NASA from 1978 until his retirement.
