On the 14th of June, we said goodbye to our beloved Nancy Johnson, wife of Grey; mother of Vickie, LaVerne, and Jaime. She was a grandmother, great grandmother, and a great great grandmother. And she was Great. She was a loving and warm-hearted woman, who considered countless others to be part of her extended family. She was the matriarch who held us all together.
Born in Lexington, North Carolina, she moved to Florida in the early 60’s, first to Fort Pierce and later to Merritt Island. Finding comfort and community in Faith Lutheran Church she was part of a group of women who founded Caring Committee.
Her faith, strength and positive attitude allowed her to be a 24-year breast cancer survivor.
In retirement, she found great pleasure in cruising, playing darts at the Moose Lodge, and in playing cards and a variety of games.
With friends and family, she recently celebrated her 90th birthday, 30 of those years spent happily married to Grey. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of all of us.
Memorial service will be Saturday June 17th, 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church of Merritt Island. The following Saturday, June 24th, there will be public visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Wylie-Baxley funeral home of Merritt Island.
