Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life, I loved you more
These words are from a Beatles song called “In My Life”. With Cannon’s passing they take on a new meaning as I truly loved him as a brother.
I believe it was around 1972 or ‘73 when I first became acquainted with the Meyer family. We would get together with the Ludwigs and L ’Argents and play baseball in the street.
I got to know Cannon and there was a chemistry that just seemed to click right off the bat. Cannon, Matt, Jimmy and I became great friends, but Cannon and I shared a bond that went to a deeper level.
We enjoyed the same music, were in symphonic band and stage band together, and need I say, consumed many beers over many years.
Cannon had an ancient turn table that he had rigged up to his bass amp. We would play albums for hours just rockin’ out to Derek and the Dominos, Grand Funk, Deep Purple, Bad Co., Eagles, James Gang, and many, many more too numerous to name. Just had to be careful not to get shocked when placing the Tone arm on the record. If we weren’t jammin’ in his room, we would go out to the Olds and listen to Kiss and Aerosmith on the 8 track player. Remember those?
I currently play the bass guitar with a mutual friend and in the Praise Band at Aurantia Baptist. That never would have happened without Cannon. You see, Cannon was playing bass in a band with Dave Spencer, Phil Poole, and Frank Markley. When he went into the Air Force, he handed me his bass guitar and told me to keep his spot until he returned. I knew nothing about the bass, but joined Dave, Phil, and Frank and actually played bass in the band until his return.

If not for Cannon, I probably would not be riding a motorcycle today. I had ridden a ’66 Suzuki and a ‘72 Yamaha in the past, as well as the popular 750/4 Honda, but had pretty much given up motorcycles until Cannon came home on an ’81 Low Rider. He suggested I give it a ride and when I got back, I was hooked. My smile was so big the top of my head almost flipped over backwards! I told him I would not own another bike until I bought a Harley, and in ’83 I did. We rode all over during the years and had a blast. That is why I still ride today, and have passed this on to my sons and enjoy riding with them as well.
It was during his years in the service that I was introduced to Ken. They both rode motorcycles down from Virginia on leave. When I met Ken, we seemed to bond as easily as I did with Cannon, and the three of us shared a friendship that would only strengthen over time. Cannon and I took a vacation to visit Ken in Newport News. Loaded my ’68 Camaro up with a cooler full of Budweiser and hit the road. Stayed with Ken a couple days and planted the seeds required to get him to move to Florida, then visited Uncle Donny and helped out at the appliance store. It was a blast!
Cannon always seemed to show up when I needed him most. My mother passed away earlier this year. On the day of her funeral service, Cannon was on his way to the hospital to be with Andrea as she gave birth to his grandson Jaxon, yet took the time to stop by and offer his condolences and support. When I saw him I was overwhelmed. Just seeing him walk through the door gave me the release I needed. The friendship we shared strengthened me during that time.
Everyone has acquaintances and friends. And if you are lucky, you have friends that are closer than all of the others. A friend you can confide in, share joy and sorrow with, a friendship that is built on trust, honesty and love. I have two friends like that, Ken and Cannon. I will miss Cannon, but he will be part of my life and in my heart foreve

I’m so glad I got to have the time God allowed me to have with you. 

He loved to golf and would play all day. 

He loved to grill and would stay up all night  cooking for a party 🎈 

My handsome husband, my wonderful mother in law and my beautiful sister in law. I am so thankful for having these three people in my life and in my children's lives. Unfortunately we are missing a very important person in this photo, our Paul Paul. We lost our Paul Paul Sept 1st. Paul was an amazing grand father to Kenny, Reese and Elijah. He loved them, made them laugh, was at every birthday, and was an amazing male role model to the boys. I couldn't have asked for a better grandfather for the children. I will cherish the time the children and I had with our Paul Paul. I can only hope our children will grow up and find someone as generous and loving as Paul was to Hilda. We will always love you Paul Paul. From Heaven to our Heart. ❤

My deepest condolences to Cannon's loving family and dear friends.  I never met Cannon, but know he was a very special person, who was loved dearly by so many.  God Speed Cannon.

the talks, the laughter, of everyone you cared.
I am told the pain will ease in time

but that will be impossible as I need to have him here.
He was my very world, my rock, my everything.

I've had some of the best memories of my life with my Uncle Cannon. Riding on the back of his Harley to Bike Week with Ken riding next to us, the crazy camping trips we went on with my dad and my other uncles, the really loud fireworks he'd show up with and who could forget the annual crab party at the Meyer Madhouse. I could go on and on. He was an awesome dad to Breanne and Andrea and he was one of the greatest men I've ever known. He will be forever missed. I love you Uncle Cannon!

Wonderful co-worker.....we often talked of our Pennsylvania  roots....and lots of Amish jokes. Always smiling....called me "Philly " every time he saw me. God's  blessings  to his wonderful  family.  Doug Dyer

Thank you for taking me down Cannons Memory lane. I am so grateful that I attended the reunion and got to meet Cannon and his lovely wife Hilda.
