Phyllis Jewett, age 85, passed away peacefully at Moosehaven in Orange Park, Florida on September 19, 2023. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Hopkins and son-in-law Tom Hopkins, her beloved granddaughter Meghan Hopkins, her baby brother William Richard Parsley, and many special nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Fred O. Jewett (2012), daughter Anita Carol Jewett (1975), and her parents William Clifford (2010) and Jewell Parsley (2018).
Phyllis was born at home in McDermott, Ohio on December 28, 1937. She married Fred in July 1956. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper and they resided in McDermott until moving to Merritt Island, Florida in February 1966 looking for new opportunities with the growing space program. Phyllis took a position in Tupperware sales then shifted to work in finance management. Later, Phyllis and Fred would purchase the B&H Store, managing and expanding the business with much success.
Phyllis was an active member of Credit Professionals International and rose to President of the local chapter and then US SE Region President. Phyllis was a dedicated member of the local Women of the Moose. She held many offices including Senior Regent and was involved in numerous activities including ritual team. She held the degrees Academy of Friendship, Star Recorder, and College of Regents. She was also proudly a Past Deputy Grand Regent of Florida. After selling their business, Phyllis continued her “retirement” working in the Merritt Island Lodge office for many years. She moved to Moosehaven in 2019. She was an avid supporter of Mooseheart children’s facility and St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
Family and friends will be received at Wylie Baxley Funeral Home (1360 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953) on Sunday, September 24, 2023, from noon to 3pm. A service and modest reception will take place at Wylie Baxley Funeral Home on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 11:30. A private interment will follow at Brevard Memorial Park (320 Spring St. Cocoa, FL 32927). Phyllis’ favorite florist is Sandpiper Florida on Merritt Island. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mooseheart or St. Jude’s Hospital would be welcomed.
