Born in Brooklyn, New York, Shelley was the beloved daughter of Miguel and Renee Montalvo. She spent her formative years in central Florida, surrounded by her brother, cousins, and extended family, and graduated from Rockledge High School in 1965.
A longtime resident of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Shelley raised her two sons, Will and Michael, with love and dedication. She held various jobs throughout the community, including at The Amelia Island Plantation, but her most cherished work was at Shelley’s Nursery, where she provided loving care to many of the community's children.
Shelley was known for her energy, drive, and determination. If something needed doing, Shelley got it done. She had a passion for sports, enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball in her younger years, and even loved drag racing. A natural tinkerer, she also had a talent for woodworking.
Her faith was central to her life. A proud and devoted member of the Fernandina Beach Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully in many callings. Later, she fulfilled a mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah—a calling she deeply loved. Shelley continued working at the library after her mission, serving as a curator and growing in her love of genealogy and family history.
Eventually, Shelley settled in Payson, Arizona, where she worked for Gila County, Payson Regional Medical Center, and the Payson Unified School District. In Payson, she was deeply involved in her church, lovingly tended her yard, watched her grandchildren’s ball games from the comfort of her camp chair, and was a constant source of care and kindness to her neighbors.
Shelley was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Renee; her brother, Paul; and her beloved son, Michael.
She is survived by her son Will (Lisa) Dunman of Waddell, AZ; her daughter-in-law Sandi (Michael) Dunman-Bromley (Dennis) of Highland, UT; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Shelley’s legacy lives on through her six grandchildren: Trae (Alyssa) Dunman, Tyler Dunman, Sadie (Alec) Solomon, Courtney Dunman, Kaitlyn Dunman, and Karissa (Cory) Barton; and her eight great-grandchildren: Tanecia Cole, Ellie Dunman, Payton Dunman, Thorian Smith, Rogue Barton, Navy Solomon, Hayes Dunman, and Reed Solomon.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 913 South Ponderosa Street, Payson, AZ 85541
Shelley’s life was one of faith, service, love, and resilience. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
