Rick is survived by his wife, Darla DeBord; his daughter Dawn Edwards and her husband Robert Edwards and his grandchildren, Amber and Austin Edwards, his brother Harold DeBord and his wife Phyllis and their son John DeBord. He is preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Thomas Ray DeBord, his sister Deanna and son, Scott DeBord.
Rick was born on December 3, 1945 in Saltville, VA to Ruth and Thomas Ray DeBord. He graduated from Cocoa High School in 1964 and from LSU in 1968 with an AA in Finance. He married Darla Barnhart, his high school sweetheart. After getting married he joined the Army and they moved to Hawaii. After leaving the Army they moved to Cocoa, FL where he worked in Banking; later he changed careers and worked in procurement for PRC and later worked for Grumman. The couple welcomed 2 children into their home and raised them in Cocoa, FL.
Rick was accomplished at singing and often sang at Church and with a gospel choir. He was generous to others, helping out when others were in need. He loved classic cars and enjoyed restoring his 1969 Ford F100 and his 1967 Ford Mustang; he was passionate about his family, his Church, and American History. He was a Deacon, an Usher, a greeter and loved attending Church and interacting with his Church Family.
A viewing is scheduled on Friday March 8 at 10:30 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church in Merritt Island. There will be a graveside service at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at 2pm and a reception to follow at the First Baptist Church in Merritt Island. Pastor Titus Green will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rick's life.
