

Richard worked for Robert Hall Clothes in Falls Church, VA, from September 1968 until June 1972, when he moved with his parents and brother to Titusville, FL. He worked for the City of Titusville, FL., in several different departments from August 1972 until October 2005 when he retired. His next position was with Oaklawn Memorial Gardens from December 2005 until September 2006. Richard was rehired by the City of Titusville in September of 2006, “because no one would do what he does as good as he does”. He remained with the City of Titusville until October 2010, when the position was eliminated. In October 2010, he became a temporary Crossing Guard with the Titusville Police Department while looking for a full-time position. In January 2011, he began working for Barn Light Electric Company, where he continued until his death.
Richard was an avid square dancer and met his wife, Carol, while square dancing. He belonged to several square dance groups: Twirl-A-Ways, Canaveral Squares, Space Trackers, Spin Drifters, Central Florida Association, and Florida Square and Round Dancer Federation. Richard and his wife, Carol, are the current presidents of the Central Florida Association. They were also presidents in 2018-2021. They are chairpersons of the 2026 Florida State Square and Round Dance Convention and were chairpersons of the 2022 Convention.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Barbara Douget, and two sisters, Mary Ann Cruit and Roberta Keleher. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Knight) Douget, and his brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Margery Douget.
A visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, N Cocoa Blvd, Cocoa, FL 32927. A committal service will occur Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 11:45 AM at Brevard Memorial Park, Spring St, Cocoa, FL 32927
