Robert William Hothan

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, New York, Bob attended P.S. 146 in Howard Beach and John Adams High School in Ozone Park. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, assigned to Company A of the 1901st Engineering Aviation Battalion, whose work focused on constructing and maintaining military airfields and aviation infrastructure. He attained the rank of corporal and carried that sense of duty and responsibility throughout his life. The year after his discharge from the military, he met and later married Lorraine Korcinek of the Bronx, New York. In the late 1950s, they lived in Fairbanks, Alaska, for two and a half years, seeking both a true change of scenery and the opportunity to save for a down payment on a home. Bob later devoted thirty-one years of his working life to the U.S. Post Office Department and U.S. Postal Service as a city letter carrier, work that suited him perfectly by combining his love of being outdoors, walking, and visiting with the people on his route. His family fondly remembers the stories he would share around the dining room table in the evenings, recounting the adventures and encounters of his day. His deep sense of service also extended to his faith community: Bob was a parishioner at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Titusville for 60 years and was active for many years with Our Lady of Space Council 5667 of the Knights of Columbus.

Bob also enjoyed the fellowship and friendly competition of sports. He was an avid bowler for many years, participating in various leagues at the two bowling alleys in town as well as at the state level. He also had a lifelong passion for baseball, both as a spectator and as a participant. He rooted for his New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers—at least until the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles, a decision he took very much to heart as someone born in Brooklyn. Bob was active on the Post Office ball teams in Bay Shore, New York, and Titusville, and later participated in the Over-40 Softball League, where he played shortstop and outfield.

Bob’s devotion to family remained central throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 36 years, Lorraine, and his second wife of 31 years, Patsy. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Henry; his sister, Florence; and his grandson, Phillip Hothan.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Elizabeth) Hothan of St. Petersburg, Florida; his daughter, Lisa (Les) Lavoie of Norton, Virginia; his stepdaughters, Christy (Kenny) Wilson of Titusville, Charla Austin of Troy, Missouri, and Cherrie (Terry) Turner of Troy; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his memory forward.

Bob will be remembered with deep love and gratitude by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, service, hard work, and cherished family memories.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Titusville. Interment with full military honors will follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 U.S. Highway 1, Mims promptly at 12:30pm.
