June 27, 1947 – June 22, 2025
Ronald “Hippie” Rife, 77, of Merritt Island, FL passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, just days shy of his 78th birthday. Born on June 27, 1947, in Defiance, Ohio, Hippie lived a vibrant life full of laughter, music, and deep-rooted passion.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force before beginning a long career as a truck driver, working for Brevard Paper Company and later Goodson Paving Company until his retirement.
Hippie was known for his love of dancing, singing karaoke, and all things NASCAR — especially his admiration for Dale Earnhardt. His home was a testament to his love of racing, filled with memorabilia that reflected his personality and spirit.
A familiar and beloved presence, Hippie had a signature entrance wherever he went: “How y’all been? Whatcha been doing?” — words that never failed to bring a smile. His booming laugh, generous heart, and unforgettable energy will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Jamie and Brittney, and his granddaughters Mikayla Toler (13), Nichole Harmon (8), and Maeve Groves (1), along with many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home in Merritt Island on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 2:00pm-3:00pm. Shortly after at 3:30pm family and friends will meet at Brevard Memorial Park in Port St. John for military honors at his resting site. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Hippie by sharing a memory, a laugh, or simply just stop by with a familiar face to share a final goodbye to a good friend.
