On Wednesday, July 6, 1932, at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, New York, Julius Frederick Bridges and Gertrude (Peters) Bridges welcomed their youngest child, Theodore Anthony Bridges into the world. Growing up, Theodore, or “Ted” as he was affectionately called, was surrounded by the love of his parents and two older siblings; Yvonne and Julius (J.B.).
Ted was raised in Harlem New York and excelled in track and swimming. During the summers, he, his brother and sister, would often find themselves at the Colonial pool on 145th Street & Edgecombe Ave.
Ted always put his best foot forward striving and excelling at whatever he put his mind to. After graduation from Jamaica High School in Queens, New York, Ted was drafted into the Army. Earning an honorable discharge in 1954; he turned his interests to the world of technology specifically in the areas of computer software and programming. As a programmer Ted worked for CBS, Holt Reinhart & Winston and Harcourt Brace.
In 1956, Ted fell in love and married Marilyn Morrissey. They lived in Jamaica, New York where they raised their two children Pamela Dawn Bridges and Theodore Anthony Bridges Jr. Ted and Marilyn were married for 26 years until they divorced.
Ted later met Ely Pizarro. Ely and Ted spent many years enjoying life in the Big Apple, NYC. Their favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. Ted relocated to Orlando Florida for work and soon Ely followed him there as well. Together, Ely and Ted were a devoted couple to one another for over 28 years. One of the things he loved doing was looking out his window at the beautiful view of the lake—it brought him so much pleasure. He was also an avid basketball fan and you could often hear him screaming plays at the players like they could actually hear him through the television. Basketball was one love, but, most of all Ted loved being surrounded by his family, hearing their crazy stories, looking at all of their pictures and listening to their fun adventures.
On the afternoon of Monday, October 29, 2018, Ted transitioned from this life. Predeceased by his parents Julius and Gertrude Bridges and his brother Julius Bridges Jr., Ted is survived by his caring and devoted partner, Ely Pizarro; ex-wife Marilyn Bridges, his loving sister, Yvonne Reid-Cooper, his adoring children; Pamela and Tony Bridges, his daughter-in-law; Jacqueline Bridges, and three grandchildren,
Dominique, Alecia and Anthony, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, who will all miss him dearly. Now it can be said that his beautiful smile and laughter will be a comfort to all of us as we reminisce about all of the times shared and the legacy of his life. There’s an extra angel in heaven guiding our footsteps on this journey we call life.
