

Doris Davis Hannon, 94, of Coldwater passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015. She was born in the family home at 225 E. Pearl Street. The home had been in her family since it was built by her grandfather, George Phinney in the late 1800’s. There were always family gatherings around the Holidays.
She was born September 18, 1920 to Hugh L. and Bernice (Phinney) McMurray.
Doris attended Coldwater Schools receiving her diploma in 1938. Her childhood friends were Mavis Wood, Betty Hutchins and her high school friends were Elizabeth Pellett, Patricia Bien, Janet Flint and Ruth AcMoody. She worked at J. C. Penney’s after graduation until she was married. After the family was raised, Doris started to work at Kmart in Troy from 1964 to 1986, retiring as Manager of the men’s wear department.
Doris was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where she served on the Deacons Board, the president of the Ladies Circle and a volunteer at the church. She was a lifelong Girl Scout and always made time to volunteer to help when Cindy was in Girl Scouts. She was a Den Mother when Phillip was in Cub Scouts.
Doris enjoyed taking care of her flowers and garden, Big Band music, reading fiction and mysteries, playing cards and dominoes. She also did sewing and needlework for the family. Doris had traveled to many places and always held the Grand Canyon and Salt Lake City as very special places, as she traveled there many times. She also enjoyed traveling to Northern Michigan sightseeing and spending time in nature.
Doris is survived by her children; Phillip & Eva Davis of Sun City West, AZ, Cindy & Dale Lancaster of Troy, MI, grandchildren; Lori & Ken Entwistle, Aaron Lancaster, Julie Lancaster, and a brother, Dr. Richard McMurray of Petoskey. She was preceded in death by a son, John Michael Davis in 1967, her husband, Bill Davis in 1984 and her husband, William Hannon in 2004.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 102 Bishop Avenue, Coldwater. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church or Heartland Hospice
