Ben peacefully entered eternal rest at the blessed age of 68, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, brother in law, uncle, coworker, and friend whose gentle spirit and loving nature touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
Ben was a kind and soft-spoken man who rarely raised his voice. But when he does raised his voice, people listened. He carried himself with a calm spirit and a warm heart, and he had a way of making those around him feel comfortable and loved. His quiet nature was complemented by a playful sense of humor that brought laughter and joy to his family.
Ben was the loving father of Carchell, Keenan, and Marsha, whom he shared with their mother, Fay Thomas. Together, they shared an important chapter of Ben’s life and the blessing of the three children they brought into the world.
Ben was a proud and loving grandfather to Rayquan, Dayquan, Linsey, Jaheim, Kalis, Marleigh, Kyrie, Kyng, and Kayvon. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and the memories they shared with their grandfather will remain a treasured part of his legacy. His family was continuing to grow, and Ben was also looking forward to the arrival of Linsey’s expected child, who would have been his great-grandchild and another beautiful addition to the generations carrying his legacy forward.
In a later chapter of his life, Ben married Danielle, and together they shared a family that became an important part of his life’s journey. Through their marriage, Ben embraced his role as stepfather to Steve, Alexandra, Stephanie, and Elijah, and as grandfather to Israel and Hezekial. His family through Danielle was growing as well, and he would have welcomed Stephanie’s expected child as a grandfather and Elijah’s expected child as a great-grandfather.
Though Ben will not be here to welcome these new additions to his family in person, his love, memory, and legacy will continue through the generations that follow him.
Ben was also deeply loved by his work family. To many of his coworkers, he was affectionately known as “Uncle Ben,” a name that reflected the warmth, familiarity, and special place he held among those he worked alongside. The relationships he built extended far beyond the workplace, and he leaves behind coworkers who will remember and miss him dearly.
Ben leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother, Violet Harris; his sister, Sandra Rochester; his brother, Paul Rochester; brother in law, Jean Plaisir; his children and stepchildren; his grandchildren and the new generations his family is awaiting; his beloved cousins, nieces and nephews; his coworkers; and a host of extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will deeply miss him.
Among the many things his loved ones will remember is Ben’s sense of humor. He would often joke about his middle name, Rupert, a name he never particularly cared for. It was one of those small, lighthearted things that became uniquely Ben and will continue to bring smiles to those who knew him best.
Throughout his life, Ben enjoyed sports, especially soccer, and had a passion for karate and kung fu. Music was also a source of happiness for him, particularly reggae, which he loved listening to throughout the years.
Ben’s life was marked by family, music, sports, laughter, and love. While his physical presence will be deeply missed, the gentleness of his spirit, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of his family, his work family, and all who knew and loved him.
May he rest peacefully, forever loved and never forgotten.
