

Dorothy Louise (Wilkins) Simon was born on February 8, 1938, in Ponchatoula, LA, to the late Freddie Sr and Audrey White Wilkins. She passed away on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, in the presence of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was baptized at Israelite Baptist Church in Lukeville, LA, at a young age.
The eldest of twelve children, Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She graduated from Cohn High School in Baton Rouge, LA, and attended Southern University before moving to Oakland, CA, at the age of 19. She is survived by her four daughters, Michelle Thomas, Debra Williams (Lee), Gloria "Jeanie" Jordan (Ken), and myself, Lisa Pryor; one stepson, William "Billy" Fortson Jr.; and two stepdaughters, Dorothy M. Simon (Jr) and Barbara Simon. She also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Dorothy had a deep love for the Lord and served Him faithfully throughout her life. She was involved in various ministries, including teaching bible studies, Sunday school, and Vacation Bible School. She also held leadership positions such as Financial Officer, Church Admin, Choir President, and Women's Ministry Leader. Additionally, she served as the Financial Officer for Christian Women's Intl. and was a missionary to Haiti, where she taught Vacation Bible School and participated in projects such as sewing uniforms, building churches, and establishing health clinics. Dorothy was an avid reader of the Bible and possessed an extensive collection. She was also a talented seamstress, creating beautiful prom dresses and clothing for her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
