Edward “Eddie” Lockhart (Lockheart) Sr. (1950-2020) passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11 at the young age of 70. He was loved by many and liked by all.

Eddie was born in Hempstead Long Island, NY to his parents, Nathaniel and Rosemary Lockhart. Eddie was the baby of the family harboring an older brother Clarence and older sister, Jonelle. Growing up, Edward got the best of both worlds, living in the fast pace of New York City high school and tickling his country roots in Savannah. His love of both places was passed down to his family and friends.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Karen, his brother, his son, Derek, and niece, Annisa. Eddie is survived by his sister, his children, Annette, Lucien, Edward Jr., and Darryl. He was a great grandpa and leaves behind many grandchildren (Akayla, Aprecia, Cana, A’yesha, Ishmael, and Nate. His love extends to his great grandchildren as well. He has a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews, Angela, Miguel, Kinnard, Stanley, Richard, and Joseph along with a host of grandnieces and nephews. He also leaves his in-law’s Leslie, David, and Stephen. He and Karen extended the family to include godchildren Lovetta, Michelle, Eric, Joshua, Sandra, Alonzo, and Uriah. So many will miss his smile, his laugh, and his incredible heart.

While adventuring here on earth, Edward, made many friends. It was said by his godson Joshua, “As long as he [Eddie] had a home, everyone had a home.” We know these words are true. Daddy would meet someone in need and before we knew it, they were at our table and a space was always found the house them. Daddy was known for helping someone get on their feet. In addition to his generous heart, my dad had excellent timing. Joshua once again said, “Eddie was never on time, but ALWAYS showed up.” That was true. He was even showing up at the time of his passing by helping nurse his daughter back to health after her surgery. We will miss his heart and his timing. We will miss him.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to his children’s alma maters: Syracuse University, Georgia State University, or Agnes Scott College in his name.

Well done sir. I will always have fond memories of coming over your house with Uriah, Darryl, the whole family and playing Golden Eye until we either fell asleep or you gently hinted it was time for y’all to go. I have had nothing but respect for you, still do till this day. I know you will be greatly missed, but your legacy lives on and you have left your mark. God Speed.....❤️❤️❤️

One of my fondest memories of Mr. Lockhart was my most recent. I was involved in a head-on collision that I was lucky to survive through. So after a couple of surgeries, I was in I.C.U and one of the first faces I saw was Mr. Lockhart and Darryl waking through the door. And within minutes, the whole room was alive with laughter and storytelling. It was like I was back at his old house on Wesley Chapel. I went from wondering how I was going to put myself back together to being told we had to be quiet because we were having too much fun. He sat with me for hours. I don't remember all the things we talked about because it didn't matter, I just remember feeling real joy and love at just having him present. He has been a father to me from the word go, and to this day I still learn from his teaching and experienece. I am blessed to have had him in my life
