My heart is truly heavy as I reflect on the passing of my dear friend, Gloria L. Odom. For over 30 years, Gloria was more than a friend—she was family. We met as nurses when my daughter was just 3 years old. Now that she is 36, I realize just how many years of life, love, and memories we were blessed to share.
Everything written in her obituary is absolutely true. Gloria was a compassionate, supportive, and loving woman. She carried herself with grace and strength, and she truly loved her work as a nurse. To me, she was like a second mother—someone I could always count on for encouragement, wisdom, and unwavering support.
She stood by me through so many milestones in my life—from becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner to earning my PhD. When I started my business in 2002, she was right there, supporting me through every challenge and celebrating every success. She was truly one of my biggest champions.
I will forever be grateful for her presence in my life and the love she so freely gave. Her impact on me is something I will carry always.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
To Valerie and the entire family, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. May God’s peace and comfort surround you now and in the days ahead.
Rest peacefully, my dear friend. You will always hold a special place in my heart.

To Valerie, Michael and “Ricky”, your mom was a beautiful woman with a warm soul. Our families go way back to a time where black love was strong and prominent in our communities as well as our families. I still have the photos of our parents on their couples trip cruising to the Bahamas. My mom always regarded Miss Gloria as a sister she never had and she would tease “an older sister”.  I’ll always remember Miss Odom as a kind,  beautiful and classy woman with a radiant smile and vibrant laugh. Our phone conversations were always enjoyable as well as memorable.
May God grant each of you comfort and peace. She will be missed, but never forgotten.

To my husband‘s Mother (Ma Gloria).              My mother-in-law,  thank you for welcoming me as his wife, and embracing me into your life as your daughter-in-law. 
I am grateful to you for a job well done by blessing me with a wonderful husband you call Son. I’ll miss all our family gatherings we’ve had together with you., lots of laughter fun and of course, our game, poke-no , but the memories are with me forever.. ♥️. I’ll continue to pray for the family.

We are saddened by the loss of our beloved Auntie Gloria.  I feel lucky to have known her.  I remember asking her if it would be okay to call her Auntie Gloria and she said… Yes I would love that!  She was always so kind and of course her style was always on point!  We will miss her deeply.
