Marvin Day

On April 17, 1949, a quiet golden sun arose heralding the arrival of the first-born son – Marvin Day – through the holy union of matrimony of the late Jesse Day and Frances (Walker) Day. Their union later welcomed five other children. Prior to the transition of Marvin Day, siblings Deloris Day (eldest sister), Sidney Day, Danny Lee Day, and Charlotte (Day) McKenzie proceeded him. With equal heralding, Marvin was welcomed home into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on August 17, 2026.

At an early age, Marvin gave his life to Christ. He joined Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was baptized by the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Sr. He later moved his membership to Travelers Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Hubert Floyd Sheppard, and returned to his generational family church – Lindsay Street Baptist Church – under the leadership of Rev. Anthony A. W. Motley.

The family resided in Atlanta, Georgia where Marvin was raised, groomed, and educated in the Atlanta Public School System. He attended Howard High School for two years and later transferred to West Fulton High School. While he participated in several after-school activities, golf was his main activity which brought him many hours of happiness and joy.

Marvin immediately joined the U.S. Marine Corps. after high school and was honorably discharged after a tour of active duty in the Vietnam War.

Later, after completing high school and his servitude to our great country as a Marine, Marvin attended Massey Business College in pursuit of post-high school formal education.

Marvin had always been industrious and worked on many jobs. In his teens, he collected soda bottles to resale to local stores; served as a golf course caddie; worked as a server in several high-end restaurants in the Atlanta area; and, worked at several grocery store chains. Later, his employment pursuits landed him at Southern Bell, and lastly at Norfork Southern Railroad where he served as a Union Representative and a fundamental member of Norfolk Southern Railroad Bowling Team. Then, he retired after 30 years of faithful, dedicated services to the Railroad.

Shortly after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps., Marvin was united in holy matrimony to the late Brenda (Phillips) Day. This union brough forth two children – Veronica (Day) Hurst and Marvin Day, II. After their marriage was dissolved, he married Freddie (Thornton) Day. Through their union, stepson Bobby Thornton was added, and son Marcellus D. Day arrived.

Marvin’s legacy includes his wife, Freddie Day; three children Veronica (Day) (Parrish) Hurst, Marvin Day, II and Marcellous D. Day; stepson, Bobby Thornton; two siblings Frankie C. Day, brother, and Gloria R. Boyer, sister; three grandchildren (Branelle L. Day, Sah’Keyra Bradley and Marvin M. Day, III); one great grandson, Zhamari Bradley) and, an entire community of friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, a wonderful aunt, and many others who loved and supported him.
