October 31, 1924 – October 16, 2025
Dr. Ramon Antonio Arias Rubio, died peacefully on October 16, 2025, at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia, the same hospital where he served as Chief of Pediatrics and practiced medicine for over 40 years. He was 100 years old, just 15 days shy of his 101st birthday.
To his family, he was affectionately known as “Pito,” a name that carried love, warmth, and familiarity. Born in Bochalema, Colombia, on October 31, 1924, Dr. Arias lived a life defined by faith, perseverance, and service to others.
He earned his medical degree from the Universidad de Antioquia Facultad de Medicina in 1951 and began his career as a physician in Colombia. After immigrating to the United States with his wife, Maria Irene Arias, he was determined to continue his calling. With remarkable humility and drive, he repeated his medical education in the United States and completed his residency at Emory University School of Medicine in 1967, becoming a practicing general surgeon and pediatrician in Georgia.
Dr. Arias dedicated over four decades to caring for the families of Cobb County, Paulding County and Douglas County. He was known for his compassion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his patients. Family often recalled how, when the hospital would call in the middle of the night, sometimes at 2 a.m., he would quietly rise, get dressed, and drive to attend to a patient in need…without hesitation. That simple act captured who he was: devoted, selfless, and deeply faithful to his purpose.
Dr. Arias and his wife built their life together in Austell, Georgia, where they raised four children; Martha Thomas Arias (deceased), Edward Arias, Marcos (Kerry) Arias, and Michael Arias. He was also a proud grandfather to Christina Maria Arias, Antonio Arias, Lyon Arias, Mathew Thomas, and Michael Thomas.
As a devout Catholic and the spiritual leader of his family, Pito ensured Sunday Mass was always attended and faith remained the center of their lives. His example instilled in his children a deep sense of duty, compassion, and belief in God’s grace.
Dr. Arias and his wife were immensely proud to become American citizens, a moment that symbolized both their gratitude and their success in building a life rooted in hard work, love, and opportunity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcos David Arias Rubio and Maria Saturnina Rubio, his sisters, Adela Arias Rubio and Juana Arias Rubio, his sister-in-law, Carmen Cecilia Arias, and by his beloved daughter, Martha.
To all who knew him, Dr. Arias was more than a physician. He was a man of quiet strength, conviction, and heart. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was a living testament to faith, family, and the power of perseverance.
“May God wrap you in His loving arms, Pito.”
