Rose Middleton Alexander, lovingly known as Teri, was born to Roger Otis and Etta Camorra Middleton on January 14, 1941, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The second youngest of six children, she was raised in Danbury, Connecticut, in a loving and caring home with her three sisters and two brothers.
After graduating from Danbury High School, Teri enrolled in nursing school in New York City at Goldwater Memorial Hospital on Welfare Island and worked as a dedicated licensed practical nurse. Teri met her loving husband, Howard Bernard Alexander, in New York City and they were married on December 27, 1969. Howard and Teri moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and eventually to Greensboro, North Carolina, where they built a rich, beautiful and fulfilling life.
After moving to Greensboro, Teri attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University where she earned a B.S. in French Education and a Masters in Reading Education. A devoted educator, she worked with the Greensboro City School System and the Guilford County School System teaching grades K-12. She will be fondly remembered for her outstanding day care center “Teri Town” where she and Mrs. Janette Wood dedicated twelve years to educating and nourishing pre-school children. In her next chapter, Teri served twelve years at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University as an advisor and lecturer.
Teri was a longtime member of Saint James Presbyterian Church where she served as a member of the Chancel, Women’s and Combined Choirs. She was also a longtime member of the Grace Brown Circle, Campus Ministry Board, and the Altars Guild. After moving to Fairburn, Georgia in 2014, she continued her faith journey at Berean Bible Baptist Church in Southwest Atlanta. Teri was also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Teri’s most precious moments in life were the ones spent with her husband, Howard, and raising their two daughters, Ria and Kellie. The wonderful times with her siblings, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and all of her beloved SOMBA-GL and Alexander family members were the light that shone and guided her all through life and gave her the inspiration to be a generous, loving, and happy person.
