At a young age, Rufus began working for Elder Building Supply. He later became employed with Apollo Forest Products as a truck driver. When the company became Universal Forest Products, he continued his faithful service there and retired as a forklift driver loading trucks.
Rufus also dedicated 26 years of service to the Fulton County Board of Education as a custodian, where he also retired.
He was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and sang in the male choir.
Rufus loved hunting, fishing, playing pool, spades, NASCAR, and westerns. But more than anything, he loved his Bunny—his wife, his heart—and he especially enjoyed playing with and lovingly aggravating all of his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Lewis Trammell, his mother Altmetta Trammell, his brothers Robert Lewis Trammell Jr., Leroy Trammell, Grady Trammell, Paul Trammell, and Warren Trammell, and his sister Ivnolia Trammell.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 53 years, Lorene B. Trammell; his children Barbara J. (Kane), Deborah (Webb), Roger (Cynthia), Brenda (Oren), Charles (Terrie), and Delois; his brothers Forrest Trammell and Henry Trammell; 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and dear friends.
