

union of Willie and Beatrice Elmore in Columbus, GA. She was the first of
three daughters born to the couple, and she was also Anita and Jean’s
big sister protector.
Thelma received her primary education at Fifth Avenue Elementary and
graduated from Spencer High School, both in Columbus, GA.
Thelma married Charles B. Carter of Reynolds, GA in 1942. To this union
three children were born, Katrina, Charles and Reginald. She
later married Sgt. Warren G. White of Little Rock, AR. They lived
in Washington state and Oklahoma before moving to Los Angeles, CA
where her daughter and youngest son lived after Sgt. White’s retirement.
Being unaccustomed to earthquakes, they moved to Atlanta, GA after the
1971 earthquake in Los Angeles. As her health declined,
Thelma was relocated back to Los Angeles in 2012.
Before leaving Columbus, Thelma was employed at Kaiser Lilienthal Inc. She
later worked for the National Urban League in Atlanta, GA.
Thelma was a faithful member of the First African Baptist Church until she
relocated to Atlanta where she joined Cascade United Methodist Church.
She was called to her heavenly reward on Friday January 8th, 2022.
Surviving her is daughter, Katrina Davis-Hill of Gardena, CA, and son
Reginald G. Carter (Marilynn) of Los Angeles.
Grandchildren: Kimberly D. Davis-Howell and Ruben Carter, both of Los
Angeles, Charles B. Carter III of Atlanta, GA, Jocelyn Ford of Dallas, GA, and
her favorite niece, Jasmine Y. Elmo of Los Angeles, Eight great
grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
