Walter was blessed with many talents, most notably his aptitude for music. He was an avid musician, enjoying all genres of music. Some of his favorite artists include Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, and Chet Atkins. While attending Willingham high school in Macon, Ga, he participated in the band playing a variety of instruments; and like his father, also enjoyed playing the piano and guitar.
After high school, Walter joined the U.S. Army, and became a member of the prestigious U.S. Army Special Forces “Green Berets”. While fighting in Vietnam he was part of the MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command – Vietnam, Studies and Observation Group), where he also earned his airborne jump wings. Throughout his service, he specialized in communications and became fluent in many languages, including French, German, and Vietnamese. After proudly serving his country for 10 years, he pursued a career in Information Technology at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. He worked at Grady for 32 years and retired as a Network Engineer. He was a staunch supporter of America’s veterans, and was a member of the American Legion Post #160.
Walter gave his life to the Lord and was a faithful member of New City Church in Fairburn Ga. He was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family. He had an appreciation for classic mustangs. His hobbies included repairing computers, vacationing with his family, eating Mexican food, and dominating everyone in the board game Scrabble.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Elizabeth; daughter, Anita Barbour; and granddaughter Tabitha Barbour.
Walter R. Anderson is survived by his loving wife Renae Anderson: children Michelle Bishop (Jim), Kelly Radtke (Marshall), and Courtney Anderson Brown (Joshua); sisters: Joan Grant and Judy Obitko of Byron, Ga; brother: David Anderson (Linda Faye); as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
