Winston Jerome Cook, 78, - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend of many passed away unexpectedly early Christmas morning of 2022, in his home, surrounded by family in College Park, GA.
Winston was born to Benny and Imelda Marie Cook on June 10, 1944, in Sebring, Florida. Winston settled in Punta Gorda, Florida with his grandmother, Addica Fleming, and expressed an early interest in all things outdoors. Most notably, FISHING!!!
Winston graduated High School from Boggs Academy (Keysville, GA) in 1962. From there, Winston would join the United States Marine Corps, where he fought bravely for his country in the Vietnam War. After years of honorable service in the Marine Corps, Winston started his post-secondary education at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA studying Mathematics. Winston would reel in his bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University in 1976 majoring in Accounting and Finance; later followed up with a degree in Computer Science from Greenleaf College.
While at Morehouse, Winston would meet his best catch yet, his wife Margaret (not his Blue Marlin that nobody could touch). Winston and Margaret were married on November 17, 1973, in Atlanta, GA. This union produced two wonderful children, and five loving & adoring grandchildren.
Using the bait gained from his educational and service background, Winston was able to begin his professional career as a Computer Programmer at Colonial Foods. From there, Winston moved to Southern Bell (Bell South/AT&T); where he spent over 2 decades casting his leadership as the Southeast Region Data Processing Manager. During his professional career, Winston somehow found the time to start his own Tax Prep and Business Service firm, Cook Business Services, helping his community navigate tax and business needs with a focused touch.
Through the years Winston’s passion for fishing continued to grow. He loved fishing trips with family, friends, or anyone with a pole and a string. Winston competed on the Redman circuit, where he was considered a top fisherman. He could be found spending countless nights making his own rods, spinning reels, and polishing up The Aggravator (his prize Ranger Bass Boat).
Winston was preceded in death by his parents Benny and Imelda, and grandson Kayson Coverson. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Cook; their children Tara (Kodi) Coverson and Jerome (Timberly) Cook; grandchildren Austin Coverson, Ava Cook, Hunter Coverson, and Zoe Cook; Sisters Dorothy Cook, Shirley Cook & Diane Johnson; brother Henry (Theresa) Johnson and a host of adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins.
