Allan Adam Shimshack

March 15, 1966August 21, 2012

Allan Adam Shimshack, 46, of College Station, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. He was survived by his wife of 19 years, Liz Eagan Shimshack. Funeral services for Allan are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station, with internment to follow at College Station Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 24, at the funeral home. Allan was born in Bryan and graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1984. For the past 27 years, he worked as a craftsman at Time Works Unlimited. Allan was a big guy with an even bigger heart. He was a man of action rather than words, quietly taking care of others’ needs without expecting or even wanting anything in return. It was not uncommon for neighbors to come home from vacations or hospital stays to find that Allan had mowed their lawn in their absence. He was the very definition of salt-of-the-earth: an unassuming guy who was slow to judge, quick to help, and as kind and reliable as they come. When you were around Allan, you couldn’t help but smile. Allan met his future wife, Liz, at the Texas Hall of Fame in Bryan, and unfailingly asked her for one dance every week for six months. When he finally got around to asking her for a date, it was instantly clear that he had found his soul mate. From that point on, they were rarely apart. Allan doted on Liz and relished his “job” of taking care of her. He lived every day to the fullest, playing softball, attending Aggie baseball and women’s basketball games, hunting, and spending as much time as possible with family and friends. He and Liz bowled with friends on a local league, and the week before he died, he reached his all-time high score of 247. He and Liz also loved to travel, always managing to find casinos along the way. Among those who will miss Allan the most are his nephew and nieces, whom he cherished as if they were his own children. He was never too busy to play ball, sneak off for some ice cream, or teach them the finer points of bowling. He was the kind of uncle every child should have, with pockets full of candy and a priority list that always put them at the top. They will always remember “Uncle Aw Aw” as the kind, patient, fun-loving man who loved them unconditionally and brought immense joy to their lives. For Allan, life was meant to be enjoyed, and he made the most of every day. His life was over far too soon, but the world is a better place because of the 46 years he lived here. Allan is preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Adam Shimshack, and numerous uncles and aunts. He is survived by his wife, Liz; mother, Doris Shimshack; brother- and sister-in-law, Darryl and Sharon Shimshack; and sister- and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Robert Kocman, all of College Station; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Col. Clement and Janet Eagan of Bryan; sister-in-law, Angie Eagan of Tennessee; nephews and nieces, Carleeand Addison Shimshack, Cody and Katelyn Kocman, and John Childs and wife Elisa; uncle and aunts, Joe and Audrey Shimshack, Cecilia Lindly, Lillian Shimshack, Lillian Wellman, Ardie Mae Schroeder and Helen Molitor. Memorials may be made in Allan’s name to the charity of your choice.
