Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday March 1 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station with Rev. Doug Dickey officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery of College Station. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Les was born October 18, 1933 in Springfield, Ill., the son of Lester Clay and Lera (Teufel) Birdwell. He graduated with honors from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Les proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy for four years, then in the Navy Reserves as Command Master Chief for 36 years. He was a Field Service Manager for IBM and retired after 34 years of service. He and Kathryn moved to College Station in 1981 where he was active in the church ministry at Grace Bible Church and later became a member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church.
Les loved his grandchildren dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved history, reading and traveling with Kathryn.
Les is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathryn Birdwell of College Station; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kent Michaels of St. Hedwig; sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Diana Birdwell of Round Rock, Matthew and Charisse Birdwell of Katy; grandchildren, Thomas and Luke Michaels, Andrew Birdwell, Sean and Jack Birdwell.
