I have a 9 year old son named David. And when I see him and his brothers outside playing with their neighborhood friends, I'm reminded of the countless hours and days playing games with David Demaree and all of our friends when we were little.

He always seemed to be smiling and quick to laugh. We played a lot of soccer in the front yards and on the driveways. When I think of him, the image that comes to mind is of a smiling, blonde-headed little boy in an untucked soccer jersey. Often with spaghetti sauce or ice cream on his face from ear to ear. Such a kind and bright soul.

Then just this past year, in the driveway of my parents' house, I got to visit with David. I didn't recognize the giant of a man as he approached. But when he introduced himself, my mind was blown. I couldn't reconcile my memories of the little boy with the man in front of me. But when he smiled, there he was.

It is such a blessing to have known him. My memories of David of will continue to be a light in my life that I will share with others.
