

DeLon was born January 14, 1932 in League City, Texas where he graduated from Webster High School. After High School, he joined the Naval Reserves where he worked in the sonar division. He went on to marry Bonnie Lee Wennberg (Hanson) on July 14, 1956 and together they had two children, DeLon Richard Hanson and Karen Rose Hanson (Rawson). DeLon worked for Penreco in Dickinson, Texas until his retirement. DeLon’s biggest passion in life was his horses. Together, he and Bonnie trained and showed appaloosa horses for many years. DeLon was an avid calf-roper and team-roper, who was a member of the Texas Senior Pro Rodeo Association and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Appaloosa Committee and Lifetime Member Committee. Throughout retirement and his later years, DeLon stayed busy on his ranch in Millican and within his community; where he was a member of the Millican United Methodist Church.
DeLon was preceded in death by his parents, DeLon and Annie Hanson, son DeLon Richard Hanson, sisters-in-law Rebecca (Wennberg) Derby and Vicki (Wennberg) Goebel, brother-in-law Jack Derby Sr.
DeLon is survived by his wife Bonnie Hanson, son-in-law Billy Rawson; daughter Karen (Hanson) Rawson, grand-children DeLon Richard Rawson and Stoy Lynn Rawson, sister Sandra (Hanson) Gianturco, brothers-in-law William Bradley and William Goebel, nephews Jack Derby Jr, Quint Derby, William Goebel Jr, Shawn Goebel, and Alexander Gianturco, niece Melinda (Derby) Cox.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station with a reception to follow service.
