He was born to Edmund and Alvina Landua in Brenham, TX, on June 28, 1944, and spent most of his early childhood in Burton, TX. His family later relocated to College Station, where he graduated from A&M Consolidated High School. A firm believer in Jesus Christ, Doug attended church and Sunday school. It is there where he met the love of his life, Janell House Landua. They were soon married and enjoyed over 61 years of the kind of love we all aspire to have—unshakeable and true.
Douglas was deeply dedicated to his community, spending most of his career in fire services—first at Texas A&M, then as Fire Chief of College Station for 17 years. He was honored to serve alongside so many dedicated men and women during this time. Even though he was passionate about fire services, he placed God and family above all else. He was humble, kind, wise, funny, and loving.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Jeffrey Shrimpton. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Janell Landua; his daughter, Dawn Overby, and her husband, David; his daughter, Debra Driver and her husband, Tim; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Fritz and her husband, Jessie, Kelsey Brainard and her husband, Ryan, and Cody Shrimpton; four great-grandchildren; and many beloved and cherished family members and friends.
A visitation for Douglas will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station, 2901 Texas Ave South, College Station, TX 77845. A funeral service will occur Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.
The family would like to especially thank the dedicated nurses and staff at Hospice Brazos Valley and the College Station Fire Department for their continuing support in honoring Doug. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to Hospice Brazos Valley.
