GG (Great Grandmother) was born in Granbury, Texas, November 7, 1925. Her father worked as a cowboy and her mother the cook on the ranch they lived on. Her father passed away when she was 12. Subsequently, her mother moved them to Granbury, TX and eventually they moved to Denton, TX where she attended college, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Texas State University in Food Science. She was a member of the Phi Tau Sigma honor society for Food Science.
In her early career she was a college instructor at North Texas State University and Stephen F Austin University. Flowayne was a scientist researcher for the Navy as a civilian employee (China Lake Naval Weapons Center). She was also a dedicated wife and mother. As her five children became busy teenagers, she worked at Texas A&M University Extension Service testing microwave ovens. Her later accomplishments included climbing Mount St. Helens in Washington State at age 70 and she published a book (Serving from Your Kitchen) at age 74. She and Dan traveled in their RV 15 years, visiting 48 states. (Ok, they did fly to Hawaii.)
Her Christian walk was reflected in all that she did, and she shared her faith with many. She prepared materials and taught Ladies Bible classes at every church she was a member. She hosted several Aggies in her house where they lived while attending Texas A&M University. She supported Christian causes in the Philippines (Philippine Bible College) and in Eastern Europe. She traveled with Sojourners and assisted as she could with that cause during Dan’s and her RV years.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Dan Drew; her mother, Amanda Holt; father, Marion Holt; and son, David Drew. She is survived by her children, Nora Drew, Daniel Drew, Stephen Drew, and Philip Drew and many grand and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at the College Station City Cemetery on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 2:00 PM. A celebration of Flowayne's life will be held in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the Memorial Road Church of Christ on November 19, 2022, at 10:00 AM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.memorialfuneralchapel.com for the Drew family.
