Gladys was born to Will and Ida Jane Cassity on April 3, 1921, in Longbranch, Texas. She graduated from Longbranch High School in 1939. Shortly thereafter, she met and married her husband of 58 years, Reagan V. Brown.
Gladys and Reagan moved to Bryan in 1955. She was a staunch supporter of her husband's professional career, which included 30 years with the Texas A&M Extension Service and six years as Texas Agriculture Commissioner.
Gladys was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bryan, the Extension Service Club and the Woman's Club of Bryan-College Station. She also served many hours as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Crestview Retirement Community. She was instrumental in establishing the Reagan Brown Foundation Excellence Award scholarship at Texas A&M University.
Gladys was a true Christian. She exhibited her beliefs in every aspect of her daily life, setting a wonderful example for all those she encountered. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she served as the family foundation, never wavering in her support and devotion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Brown, and his wife, Victoria, of Bryan; daughter, Beverly Brown, and her husband, Donnis Baggett, of Waco; grandson, Bryan Brown, and his wife, Betsy, and their children, Reagan, Cassity and Abigail, of College Station; her step-granddaughter, Stefanie Brumfield, and her daughter, Khloe, of Texas City; and step-grandchildren, Valerie and David Baggett, of Dallas and Fort Worth, respectively.
Gladys will always be remembered for her gentle goodness, kind words and enduring faith.
The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers Vera Vega and the Crestview Retirement Community staff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neighborly Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church of Bryan or Twin City Mission.
