Grady Nathan Franklin

Nathan was born on March 23, 1942 to Grady and Alvina Trappe Franklin. He married Doris Boecker Franklin on December 22, 1962 at First Lutheran Church in Temple, TX. Nathan and Doris moved to Bryan/College Station, TX in July of 1963.

Nathan was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in College Station, TX since 1963. He taught Sunday School classes and was Sunday School Superintendent. He served on the Parish Education and Property committees. He, also, did volunteer work for Habitat for Community by keying many locks for the homes built by the organization.

Nathan and his wife, Doris, owned Home Furniture Company in Bryan for 10 years. He started working as a locksmith at Texas A&M University in September 1989 until he retired on August 31, 2016. A “jack of all trades” he was skilled in many aspects of home repairs.

Nathan thought the world of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Nathan is survived by his wife of more than 62 years, Doris Boecker Franklin. He is also survived by his son Michael and wife Cathy Franklin, their children, Daniel (Erica) Scott, Jaimie Hill, and Joshua (Bekah) Mamola-Hill; his daughter, Lisa and husband Scott Howard, their children, Coleman Howard, and Kaci Howard (Tyson Thomas); his great-grandchildren, Emma Scott, Saylor Hill and Veda, Kobe and Kenzie Thomas; his brother Richard and wife Shirley Franklin; extended family members and friends. Nathan was preceded in death by his parents Grady and Alvina Franklin, and also by a brother, Jimmie Franklin.

Funeral services for Nathan will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 11:00 am with visitation beginning an hour before the service at 10:00 am at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1001 Woodcreek Drive, College Station. Pastor Elaine Gomulke will be officiating. Burial will follow at Restever Cemetery in Bryan, TX. Pallbearers will be Daniel Scott, Joshua Mamola-Hill, Coleman Howard, Tyson Thomas, Kobe Thomas and Mark Franklin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Chapel of College Station.
