Hugh Duncan Simmons, fondly known as “Bubba”, 50, of Bryan, TX, passed away in Galveston, TX, on May 29, 2013 where he planned to meet his family for a few days at the beach. He was born on September 22, 1962 at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. He lived in Virginia, New Jersey, and Illinois before moving to College Station, Texas in 1970. He graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1980 and then attended Sam Houston State University. He worked 30 years for the Texas A&M University Computer Services Center. He retired shortly before he lost his battle with cancer
Hugh was very friendly and noted for working well with everyone. He loved TV shows about travel and had visited Mexico, Puerto Rico, Japan, and most of the states in the US. He was looking forward to trips this summer to California with his former wife and daughters and to Colorado with his sister who loved him dearly. He had many hobbies and interests including tropical fish, computer games, puzzles, astronomy, movies especially science fiction ones, TV cooking shows, and Aggie Football. His main love was being with his daughters Annie and Sami.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Charlie Duncan and Emma Louise Simmons and Haydon W. and Dorthy Dodd McDonnold and his aunt Charlene Walker. He is survived by his beloved daughters Anastasia Lorraine “Annie” and Samantha Beatrix “Sami”, his parents Dick, Sr. and Julie, brother Dick, Jr., sister Elizabeth, uncles and aunts Hugh McDonnold and Frances Thiel, Duncan and Alice Simmons, Don and Nancy Simmons, Douglas and Soghme Simmons, William and Sue Swanson, William Walker and many cousins. He is also survived by his former wife Jackie Burns with whom he kept a close relationship. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at A&M United Methodist Church in College Station, TX.
