

Dr. Cabaniss was born January 21, 1941 in Jackson, Mississippi, the son of William Luther Cabaniss and Mamie Knight Cabaniss. He grew up in New Orleans and received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tulane University and his M.D. from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1972. He served in the U.S. Navy as an engineering and operations officer from 1962 to 1964, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He was board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Family Practice. Dr. Cabaniss practiced medicine for almost 40 years.
Dr. Cabaniss enjoyed hiking, Mayan archeology and was a member of the Lions Club of College Station.
Dr. Cabaniss was preceded in death by his parents, William Luther Cabaniss and Mamie Knight Cabaniss.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel O. Cabaniss; children, Conrad Belveal and Lesa Lord; grandchildren, Brian Belveal, Harrison Lord, Alexandra Lord, Bradley Belveal and Brandon Belveal; sister, Helen Cook and a nephew, David Cook.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.
