Jim was born on December 23, 1946, in Beeville, Bee County, Texas. He lived a full life with many interesting educational, career and travel experiences. During his life he resided in Houston, Austin and Brenham, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; and the Minnesota Twin cities area.
Jim had a true gift of bringing laughter and joy to all who knew him whether in his personal and family life or in career and professional relationships. He was blessed with a gift of being able to see life situations in a unique and humorous way, always filling the room with joy and laughter.
Jim had an intense passion for various things including health and fitness; nutrition; self-defense; God, spirituality and religion; career, family, friends and cats! He had great appreciation and respect for people who served others such as current and former military members; police officers/law enforcement; first responders; and health care providers. Jim loved his family and developed a special, very strong bond with his special needs sister, Mary. Also, with his sister Marilyn and brother-in-law Larry Earls, Sr., as well as Larry’s family members.
After graduating from Marian Catholic High School in Houston, Jim entered the Dominican House of Studies in Chicago where he obtained degrees in Philosophy and Theology. At this time Jim decided to take a different path, exiting the seminary, and eventually moving to Austin where he attended and graduated from the University of Texas.
Jim remained in Austin for many years before relocating back to Houston ultimately pursuing a career in the health care industry. He eventually landed his dream job as an Information Technology Project Manager with the Memorial Hermann Health System. Jim was very proud of his work to help implement clinical systems for Memorial Hermann. He considered his Memorial Hermann co-workers to be family and was very well thought of and highly respected by many colleagues there. He retired from Memorial Hermann with over 20 years of service.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Idell Pherigo Henderson; father, James Humphrey Henderson, Sr.; sister, Mary Idell Henderson; and sister, Marilyn Sue Earls. He is survived by sister, Peggy Butler and husband Jeff of Belton, Texas; brother, Daniel Henderson and wife Victoria of Laceys Spring, Alabama; brother, Michael Henderson and wife Conchita of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Martha Miller and husband Jim of Little Elm, Texas; brother-in-law, Larry Earls, Sr., of Brenham, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim's visitation with light refreshments will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary and a time of sharing beginning at 6:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station, 2901 Texas Avenue South, College Station, Texas 77845. A visitation will occur Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 2541 Earl Rudder Freeway, College Station, Texas 77845. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Jim will be laid to rest close to family at a committal service beginning at 2:45 pm, Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Calvary Cemetery, 1200 College Avenue, Brenham, Texas 77833.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be sent to the American Heart Association in honor and in memory of Jim. The family also wishes to express several very sincere thank you gestures to the following in the College Station area: Bluebonnet Place Assisted Living Community staff; Enhabit Home Health hospice nurses and staff; St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church clergy and staff; Dignity Memorial Funeral Chapel staff.
All who had the privilege of knowing Jim will deeply miss him. He was a beloved brother, uncle, cousin, friend, co-worker, etc. We hope and pray God will grant eternal rest unto him.
