James Calvin Medlock was born on January 30, 1977 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Matt and Evelyn Medlock and passed away on October 12, 2025 in College Station, Texas. James was a kind, loyal, and loving husband, father, son, and friend. His dry humor, quick wit, and distinctive laugh brought joy to those around him.
James moved to College Station in 1982. He graduated from A&M Consolidated High School, class of 1995, and then attended Sam Houston State University where he received a degree in Business Marketing and Management. James worked in the health care industry, providing equipment and support for patients as they transitioned from hospital to home, and driving patients to appointments, and he loved to personally care for the patients he interacted with.
James met Tressie Farnie in 2015 and they married on New Year’s Eve, 2016. Jagger Patrick was born in 2018. Jagger’s favorite thing to do with his dad was “playing space in real life.” Charley Louella was born in 2021, and Charley’s favorite thing to do with her daddy was going to the park. James was an ardent fan of the Phoenix Suns, and James and Tressie loved to see them play in person when the Suns would play in Houston.
James was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Tresmer “Buddy” and Corinne Hendricks Medlock, and maternal grandparents Aurelious Alexander (A.A.) and Elouise Jaggers Melton. He is also preceded in death by his aunt Millie Medlock Jackson, aunt Ann Melton Abbe, uncle Mike Melton, and aunt Sandy Melton Heidtke.
James is survived by his wife, Tressie Medlock, and their children, Jagger and Charley. He is also survived by parents Matt and Evelyn Medlock, brothers Tony (Jennifer), Alex (Joanna), and nieces and nephews Avery (Nathan) Ging, Karis, Ramsey, Colin, and Julian Medlock, and Jonathan, Isaiah, Levi, and Moses Medlock, all who are of Bryan/College Station, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
James’s wife and family would like to share that James passed away by suicide after battling mental illness. To honor his memory and in lieu of flowers, be the support for someone in need, an active listener when someone is struggling, and an advocate for mental health services.
Visitation for James will be held Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
