

James Edward Woods of Iola, Texas, departed this life Monday, July 31, 2017, in his home surrounded by his loving family. James was born on February 28, 1949, in Houston, Texas. He was the 1967 Valedictorian of Iola High School and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. James worked for TMPA as a control room operator, KAR Products and Kimball Midwest as a hydraulic trainer, and after retirement spent time shuttle driving for Sterling Auto Group in Bryan, Texas. James adored his three grandchildren. A special family tradition when visiting with his grandson, Tanner, was camping out watching the 1955 version of Davey Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier. He also enjoyed raising cattle and took great pleasure in researching and collecting rare firearms and war relics. He had a fascination of History, especially the Civil War era and early Indian Wars.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Asa Edward and Oleta Woods of Iola, and his younger brother, Kenneth Woods of Iola. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Woods; his son, Gregory Hollis, and daughter-in-law Ginger Hollis of Floresville, Texas., daughter, Amber Scasta of Franklin, Texas., and grandchildren, Tanner Hollis, Raegan Hollis, and Rayne Scasta.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 2901 Texas Avenue South, College Station, Texas, at 11:30 am. The family will receive guests for visitation one hour prior to the service.
