Jesse Stanfield

Jesse Lewis Stanfield went to his Heavenly Home to reside eternally with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 11:31 a.m. There will be a visitation at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 2901 Texas Avenue South in College Station on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 4-6 p.m. The graveside service will be at Pool Cemetery in Richards, TX on FM 149 at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015. At 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 30th, 2015, there will be a celebration service of his life officiated by Jerry Ellis, John Maurer and District Judge Travis Bryan, III, at Central Baptist Church, 1991 FM 158, College Station, TX.

Jesse was born in Danville, VA, February 2, 1931 to John Samuel and Maggie Dale Stanfield. He grew up in a large family of 10 brothers and sisters. The family relocated to Houston, TX when he was around 13 years old where his older siblings obtained employment with good salaries in the Houston shipyards.

Jesse grew up in Houston where he met the love of his life in Jr. High School. They were married July 9, 1948. From 1952 to 1956 Jesse served his country honorably in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS St. Paul (CA-72) seeing combat multiple times through the end of the War, as Margret was faithfully waiting at home.

After his honorable discharge, they moved to Richards, TX, where he and his brother, Arnold, were co-owners of The Stanfield Brothers Dairy Farm. After deciding to leave the dairy business, they relocated to Bryan, TX in 1961 where Jesse joined the police force in 1964. He was elected as Brazos County’s Precinct 4 Constable from 1968 and served until 1972 where he made many long lasting friends. Also during his life here in Bryan/College Station he was a successful businessman as the owner of Twin City Chrysler Plymouth and co-owner of 3-S Grain Incorporated.

In July of 1961, he and Margret joined Central Baptist Church where Jesse served as a Deacon, Head Usher and also a greeter for many years. Jesse was loved by all those he came into contact with on Sunday mornings and throughout the week he cheered them on as he ministered to their needs! He also made a tremendous impact in many lives with his “Found Money for Missions” project. This ministry was sparked when he stepped out of his vehicle one day and found some change on the ground. He and Margret both vowed to give every cent found to missions! Friends learned of this ministry and began to add to the funds by giving Jesse money they had found. This added into a considerable sum through the years and this ministry continues today. He also loved to give dozens and dozens of donuts as he went about his duties, not only to the church but also to many happy friends who anticipated the joy of eating them! Jesse lived each day to generously help, support and cheer those he met along the way.

In 1957, Derrek Miles was adopted into their home and in 1959 Devin Lewis Stanfield was added to their family by adoption as well. The boys grew up in Bryan and graduated from Bryan High School.

He is preceded in death by his son, Devin Lewis Stanfield and Granddaughter, Rachelle Ann Stanfield; his sisters, Dorothy Ramsdell, Frances Manuel, Edith Carter, Peggy Walker, Joyce Schuetze; his brothers, Lester Stanfield, Donald Stanfield, Jack Stanfield and Arnold Stanfield.

Jesse leaves behind his faithful and loving wife of 67 years, Margret; his son Derrek and his wife Susan; a sister Agnes and her husband, Kenneth Allen. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Kristen and husband Russell Treider, Daniel Stanfield and Dustin Stanfield. He also leaves behind seven great grandchildren.

Jesse’s favorite verse that brought him so much comfort during his life was John 14: 1-3, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
