She was born May 5, 1961 at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. to Stewart and Willie McConnell.
As her dad was an Army Officer, her early years were typical for an Army Brat with many adventures and relocations – Rockville, Maryland to La Paz Bolivia, back to Maryland for another Washington, D.C. posting, then to Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. In 1968, her family moved to College Station, Texas when her father retired from the Army and accepted a faculty position at Texas A&M University.

In 1983, she graduated from Texas A&M University with a BBA in Marketing and worked in retail sales as a manager for Palais Royale in Houston for several years.
With a heart for children, she decided to change careers and attended Sam Houston State University to obtain her teaching certification. It was then she began a teaching career which lasted 31 years. Her last 29 years were spent as a pre-K teacher at Meadow Wood Elementary in Spring Branch ISD in Houston, Texas. This was her true calling and she poured her talent and her love into the lives of hundreds of children in her classes.
Laura had two daughters, Taylor and Devon, whom she loved without reservation. She supported them in their schooling and activities including multiple roles with the Cypress Creek High School Silverados (Silvies) Dance Team and serving as an officer in the local branch of the National Charity League.
She loved attending Aggie sporting events, especially football games. Laura was a gifted teacher, devoted mother and beloved daughter, sister, and aunt. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Laura was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Stewart McConnell, and grandparents Jack and Lena Jeffries.
She is survived by her daughters Taylor Weber and Devon Weber, both of Houston, mother Willie McConnell of College Station, sister Dr. Judy McConnell of Denton, brother Bill McConnell and wife Melissa of College Station, nephew Joshua McGuire and wife Lauren of College Station, niece Caitlin McConnell of New York City, uncle and aunt James and Judy Choat of Carrollton, Texas and cousins Jay and Jeff Choat, also of Carrollton, and by her beloved beagle companion Boudreaux and her grand pup Walter.
The family would like to recognize the administration, faculty, parents, and students (both current and former) of Meadow Wood Elementary School for the love and support they showed to Laura during her illness. They truly were her second family. Special thanks also to neighbors Mary and Jimmy Pike for their devotion and watchcare over Laura, Taylor, and Devon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution in Laura’s name to the charity of your choice.
